Install and update ArcGIS Pro
The steps below guide you through the ArcGIS Pro installation process.
Download and install ArcGIS Pro
The first step to get started with ArcGIS Pro is to download and install the application. There are also optional setups available that provide offline help as well as language packs that allow you to run ArcGIS Pro in your preferred language.
- Review the ArcGIS Pro system requirements to verify operating system and other environmental prerequisites.
- Download ArcGIS Pro and any optional setups from My Esri.
- ArcGIS Pro (required)—Download to get the main ArcGIS Pro application.
- Offline Help (optional)—Download to access offline help for ArcGIS Pro. By default, ArcGIS Pro connects to and displays an online help system. If you know you will be working in a disconnected environment, install the local help files.
- Install ArcGIS Pro first.
- Install any of the optional downloads.
Note:For ArcGIS Pro to be installed per user on supported Windows Server operating systems, the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer must contain the REG_DWORD data type DisableMSI, with a value of 0. For more information, see MSDN's topic, DisableMSI.
Install ArcGIS Pro
- Start the ArcGIS Pro installation program and click Next when you are ready to proceed.
- Review the master agreement and accept it if you agree. Click Next to continue with the installation. You must exit if you do not agree with the terms.
- Select the installation context in which ArcGIS Pro will install, whether per machine (all users) or current user. By default, the per machine option is selected. Click Next when you are ready to continue. (Note that if the user running the setup does not have administrative privileges, a per machine instance of ArcGIS Pro cannot be installed.)
- Click Change to specify an installation folder other than the default. Select the Solutions feature to install the optional ArcGIS Pro Intelligence configuration.
- Click Install to begin the installation. Note that the Esri User Experience Improvement check box is selected by default.
- Click Finish to close the wizard when the installation completes. Leave the Run ArcGIS Pro now check box selected if you want to immediately start the application.
- If needed, run the offline help setup for ArcGIS Pro by browsing to its installation folder and executing the file ArcGISProHelp.msi. This setup is needed to get offline help for ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Pro Intelligence. (By default, ArcGIS Pro uses web-based help in a browser.) If you will be working in a disconnected environment, install the local help files.
Note:If you specify the root directory for the installation path (for example, C:\) during a first-time installation, the folder ArcGIS\Pro is now automatically appended. This is to allow the application folders to reside in a location apart from other folders on the target machine. If a previous version of ArcGIS Pro was installed to the root directory, that path is preserved during an upgrade. This applies only to new installations.
Sign in and authorize the application
- The administrator of your organization needs to assign your account a license for ArcGIS Pro before you can use the application.
- Upon starting ArcGIS Pro, you will be prompted to enter your user name and password to authorize the software.
- After you sign in, you can choose to sign in automatically so you won't be prompted each time you start ArcGIS Pro.
- After opening a project in ArcGIS Pro, click the Project tab or click the arrow next to your name in the upper right corner of the application to view your profile, set options for licensing, and perform other tasks.
- To use ArcGIS Pro in a disconnected environment, on the Project tab, click Licensing, and check the check box to authorize the application to work offline.
Install ArcGIS Licensing Service
- The ArcGIS Licensing Service setup is installed with ArcGIS Pro. It is required for a per-user installation of ArcGIS Pro to work offline with a concurrent use license or to utilize single use licensing.
- To install the ArcGIS Licensing Service, run ArcGISLS.msi in "<ArcGIS Pro installation directory>\Resources\ArcGIS Licensing Service" and follow the prompts. This requires administrative privileges.
- The ArcGIS Licensing Service setup installs the 64-bit Flex Net service.
- The Flex Net service is automatically installed by a per-machine instance of ArcGIS Pro; the ArcGIS Licensing setup is only necessary to support per-user installations.
Update the application
- When Esri has released an update for the application, by default, a notification appears when you start ArcGIS Pro. You can click the notification message to start the software update process.
- To check for updates in the middle of a session, click the Project tab and click About. If updates are available, you can run the update process. You can also turn off the option to check for updates when starting ArcGIS Pro.
Note:For system administrators who want to disable automatic update notifications for a per-machine installation of ArcGIS Pro, browse to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISPro\Settings and set the value of CheckForUpdatesAtStartup to 0.
Upgrading to a new major version of ArcGIS Pro can cause documents and add-ins to be incompatible. To block major version software updates only, browse to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ESRI\ArcGISPro\Settings, create a DWORD value named BlockMajorUpdateNotifications, and set it to 1.
ArcGIS Pro installs Conda to manage the Python environment. The Python for ArcGIS Pro optional setup is no longer required. If you have previously installed this setup, it is recommended that you uninstall it.
When upgrading ArcGIS Pro, running the latest setup will automatically upgrade the previously installed version. There is no need to obtain and install each previously released version in sequence, or to uninstall your previous version of ArcGIS Pro.
During an upgrade of ArcGIS Pro, the installation context and installation folder of the previously installed version are maintained. If you want to change either of these attributes, you must first uninstall the previous version of ArcGIS Pro before running the latest setup.
If an ArcGIS Pro language pack is installed on your computer, update notifications for new software versions or patches do not appear until the language pack is available for that version or patch.
