Tam var būt dažādi iemesli – dotā operētājsistēmā nav atbilstošu fontu, dotajā pārlūkprogrammā nav iestādīti vajadzīgie fonti, dotajā pārlūkprogrammā nav izvēlēts atbilstoša zīmju kopa, lappuse izveidota kļūdaini. Viena un tā pati lappuse dažādās vidēs var būt redzama pareizi vai arī kļūdaini.

Lai samazinātu ķeburu parādīšanās iespējas, veidojot lappas galviņā jānorāda kāda koda lappuse ir tikusi izmantota. Windows vidē taisītai lappusei tas attiecīgi būtu:

Daži lappušu veidošanas redaktori latviešu burtus kļūdaini aizstāj vai nu ar burtu decimālkodiem, vai arī ar burtu nosaukumiem, kas atbilst citai kodu tabulai. Apskatot šādu lappusi ar vienkāršu teksta redaktoru, vai arī izmantojot pārlūkprogrammas iespēju parādīt lappas ar visām komandām (Page source), latviešu burti redzami kā burtu nosaukumi. Piemēram, teksts „Ar šķērēm var arī griezt šķiņķi”, izskatīsis šādi:

Ar &#240;&#237;&#231;r&#231;m var ar&#238; griezt &#240;&#237;i&#242;&#237;i

Vai arī šadi:

Ar &eth;&iacute;&ccedil;r&ccedil;m var ar&icirc; griezt &eth;&iacute;i&ograve;&iacute;i
