Municipalities and companies can get financial
assistance for the management of hazardous waste directly
from the natural resources tax revenues or by means of asking
for subsidies from the Latvian Environmental Protection Fund,
which partly manages revenues from the natural resource tax.
The Natural Resource Tax was introduced aiming at
the restriction of inefficient use of natural resources and
environmental pollution, reduction of production and sale
of products that pollute the environment, promotion of introduction
of new and improved technologies that reduce environmental
pollution, assist sustainable economy development strategy,
and provision of financial assistance for environmental protection
projects.
