This softpaq contains the files needed to create a bootable Compaq Personal Computer Diagnostics diskette, which will display information about the computer's hardware and test the computer to ensure it is operating properly.
PC Diagnostics is installed on the Diagnostics Partition for those systems which support it and have hard drives. It is shipped as a diskette or diskette image on other products.
A Compaq Personal Computer Diagnostics diskette contains programs that can perform the following tasks:
- INSPECT (display machine config)
NOTE: Setup from the startup menu is not present when the latest version of Personal Computer Diagnostics 10.40A
(SP16085) is installed.
For older products Downgrading to Personal Computer Diagnostics, version 10.39A (SP12906), results in Setup being included and selectable from the startup menu. The diskette of this softpaq can be used to update PC Diagnostics on the Diagnostics Partition or to restore it if the Diagnostics Partition has been destroyed. PC Diagnostics can be run by pressing F10 during power-up or reboot when prompted in the lower right corner of the screen on some models or when the cursor jumps to the upper right corner of the screen on other models. It can also be run directly from this diskette.

HOW TO USE:
1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive. The file downloaded is a self-extracting executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions. Pressing "Space Bar" to confirm the unpacking of files creates a new directory folder in the download directory. The diskette image file, the image extraction tool, and the batch file to create the diskette are unpacked into this newly created directory.
3. After the Diagnostic diskette has been created, you may delete the self-extracting file downloaded in step one, as well as the directory folder and files created in step two.
4. Go to the system that you want to run PC Diagnostics on and power down the system.
5. Place the newly created Diagnostics diskette in Drive A:, and power up the system.
6. The system should then boot to Compaq PC Diagnostics.
